Amelia’s POV
“Annette? Is that you?”
Hearing his voice, my heart leapt up into my throat. “Damien?”
“It’s me,” he said. “Why are you at Dr. Wyatt’s office?”
“I’m Dr. Wyatt’s apprentice now,” I said excitedly, eager to share the news with him, though I didn’t really understand why. We didn’t really mean anything to one another, but I couldn’t deny my heart wanted the chance to make him proud.
“That’s wonderful,” he said. “I’m sure you are doing a good job.”
“I just started,” I said, “But things are going great so far. I’ve already been able to help so many children.”
