Cole looked at me one last time before turning away from the doorway.
Then he left with Ryan beside him while Officer Grant followed a few steps behind. The front door closed not long after while Brad stayed standing near the kitchen with the folder still in his hand. Jade looked between him and the paperwork like she was waiting for somebody to tell her this wasn’t actually happening.
Good.
I didn’t stay downstairs.
There was no point after the message had already been delivered. Cole came here, applied pressure exactly where it mattered, and left Brad standing there looking completely unprepared for it.
That alone changed everything.
I headed upstairs without slowing.
