This time, her choice

1053 Words

(Sebastian) I woke before Zara and spent a few minutes watching her sleep. Our conversation about the future was still on my mind. She'd asked where I saw us in five years, and my answer had been simple. I wanted her beside me. But there was something I still wanted to do. I wanted to propose to her properly. Our marriage had happened without either of us knowing what we were signing. We'd chosen to stay together afterward, but I'd never asked her the question she deserved to hear. I wanted to change that. This time, the decision would belong to us. Zara moved beside me. "Why are you awake?" "Thinking." "About work?" "No." She opened her eyes. "That's unusual." "Very funny." She moved closer. "Anything I should know?" "Not yet." She studied me. "You're planning something."
