Kane ran through the forest; he could hear the ongoing battle far behind him.
He knew it!
Something wasn’t right. His sons were not present in any of the packs under his extortion. The Alpha, which once quivered under his thumb, arrived with a sense of unexplained smugness.
He had asked Alpha Caleb where Kyle was, but all he got as a response was that Kyle was on the other side, hiding. He wanted to be there to catch any of the deserters trying to escape from the Slaughtered Lambs pack once they all rushed into battle.

Kyle was not the type of wolf to miss a fight. Then he noticed that none of his sons were visibly present. Did they think he would not take notice of the absence? It was then that Kane knew he was being set up.
