“Stay near me,” he said. “No matter what happens, I will protect you.” I didn’t use my wolf often, so she wasn’t as strong as the pair of Alphas around me or the other enforcers. Julian’s advice was sound, and I made a note to follow it. Or at least, I wanted to try to. In the heat of the moment, sometimes my actions moved quicker than my thoughts, especially when it came to protecting the people I cared about. Julian wanted to protect me, but I wanted to protect him too. It was difficult to think about who was stronger when push came to shove, when all I could think was that I didn’t want him to get hurt. For now, though, I told myself to stay behind Julian, to trust him to protect both myself and him. He’d already proven he could. We followed along the washed out path for a ways.
