OLIVIA A few others joined in with soft applause because of the coach’s praise. I exhaled, a small smile forming as pride bloomed in my chest. My steps might not be as smooth or fast as they once were, but the way their eyes followed me, the way the coach nodded, it showed that I still had it. I wasn’t that perfect, but I was enough to be admired. Kneeling on one knee, I began to unbuckle my heels. My fingers were still on the strap when someone shoved past me. I stumbled slightly, catching myself with one hand on the floor. “Thought she retired?” one girl muttered to her friend. She was the same girl who had shoved me, a smug smirk playing on her lips. “She did. Guess desperate times bring people back,” the other replied with a quick laugh. “Yeah, but she doesn’t look the same.
