Massimo thought the party had gone well, all things considered. Tyler didn't make any fuss and neither did Elena's parents. Everyone simply enjoyed the wedding celebration—and the bride and groom left with smiles on their faces.
But the next morning, Massimo woke to find that Elena was still sleeping. She had returned to the hotel much earlier than Massimo had, and Elena was normally a very early riser.
Massimo took the opportunity to get a nice breakfast for the two of them and bring it back to the hotel. And though Elena smiled at that gesture, Massimo could easily tell she wasn't doing great. The smile felt forced and didn't reach her eyes.
Massimo kept his mouth shut as they packed up, hoping that Elena's good mood would return any minute. But it didn't.
