My mom came back into the room after seeing Macey out. She glared at me as if I had just done something terrible.
“What?” I asked her.
“What's wrong with you?” she replied.
I felt very confused. I had no idea what my mom was talking about, and I was pretty sure I was in trouble for something.
“I got hurt playing football,” I said slowly.
“Don't be a smartass,” my mother shot back.
Maybe making a joke wasn’t the best idea, but right now, I had no clue what had my mom upset, so it was the only card I had to play.
