The call comes Tuesday afternoon. “Ms. Bennett, this is Patricia Morrison.” My stomach drops. The Morrison project. My biggest client. “Hi, Patricia.” “We’ve decided to go in a different direction with the Chelsea location.” The words don’t process. “I’m sorry, what?” “We’re terminating our contract effective immediately.” “But we’re three weeks from completion. What changed?” Silence. Then: “We received concerning information about your professional conduct.
