As I continued to bellow out a scream towards it, letting all the damn frustration I had built up inside of me out, I realized that one of the creatures had returned. Closing my mouth, I took a step back as he moved straight past me to Mazie’s body. Kneeling down, he picked her gently up into his arms, before he stood to his full height, while he stared down at me with what looked like compassion or maybe even respect in his eyes.
With no words needing to be spoken, I realized that he wanted to help me with Mazie, and right now, I needed all the help I could get. Plus, I knew that Mazie and I would be much safer in his presence, along with what I assume was his pack.
