Mazie’s body shot straight up as a gasp came from her lips, while she began to cough up water, before she laid back down. My body slumped forward, beyond exhausted, as tears continued to pour from my eyes, but this time they were tears of happiness, seeing my friend alive and breathing now before me.
As I sat there feeling hopeless, knowing that this was all my fault, a cool breeze grazed my dripping wet flesh, sending a chill throughout my body, but I didn’t care right now. Even with my teeth chattering, I just sat there, too exhausted to even care, as I watched Mazie’s chest rise and fall through my tear-filled eyes. But when I saw her frail looking body begin to shiver, I knew that I needed to act.
