I rose and wrapped my arms around him before he could argue. His body was rigid with tension.
“I want us to leave, Kael,” I whispered.
His arms slowly closed around me.
“Where will we go?” he asked. “If Darius steps down, I may have no choice but to challenge someone. Once I take a pack, no one will be able to hunt us.”
I began sobbing against his chest.
“No,” I cried. “I forbid you from risking your life. I would rather remain packless than lose you. I cannot watch you enter a death challenge knowing your opponent might cheat.”
