I was honestly frightened when my babies shifted. Kael had warned me about the possibility more than once. I thought I understood what it meant, and I had convinced myself that I would be able to handle it when the time came. But when I looked into Rowan’s cot and saw a tiny black pup sleeping where my son had been, every bit of that confidence disappeared. Seeing Ivy shift three days later did not make it easier.
