According to Callum, Viktor was behind the wider violence. He wanted a strict separation between wolf and human territories. He was also demanding taxes from human settlements located near wolf lands. Viktor had already destroyed four packs that refused him, and the council had done nothing. During the meeting, Callum asked to speak with me privately. He left the other hunters discussing patrol routes with Darius and Nolan while we walked far enough away that no one could overhear.
“What are we going to do about your uncle?” Callum asked. “I think he has gone mad.”
“Why have you reached that conclusion?” I questioned.

“Viktor has killed too many people in a short period,” he explained. “You know what repeated fighting does to Ace wolves. The more they kill, the
