Emma’s POV
Joan came back into the courtroom, followed by two bailiffs and her public defender. She was trying to act like she had things all figured out, but the moment she saw that Noel had been crying, she snapped.
“What did you do to Noel? Halton, why are you allowing her to be bullied?” Joan cried out, looking directly at my mother as if the blame lay with her.
“We didn’t do anything to her. They can check the cameras. Your daughter's probably crying because she felt terrible about throwing you under the bus. But it could be because she just learned that she’s next on the chopping block,” my mother fired back.
