Benny’s POV
As I slip quietly back into Tanner’s room, I hear the rustle of sheets before a small voice calls out to me through the darkness.
‘Mr Benny?’ Tanner's voice whispers, as I approach the bed, leaning over so the little boy can see me.
‘Hey bud, yeah it’s me’ I reply, ‘have you been awake long? I’m sorry, I went to see your siblings quickly’ I add, guilt overwhelming me.
Tanner shakes his head, ‘I just woke up when you opened the door’ he replies groggily.
I smile, ‘sorry bud, I didn’t mean to wake you.’
He nods, ‘what time is it?’ he mumbles.
I glance at my watch, ‘just after one thirty in the morning’ I tell him, ‘do you need anything? Or do you want to get some more sleep, I’ll be sitting right here next to you so you can sleep if you want too.’
