The sharp scent of disinfectant clawed its way into my senses, jolting me awake.
As my eyes fluttered open, I saw myself in an unfamiliar room. How did I end up in the hospital? The last thing I remember was taking Liam downstairs for his birthday breakfast.
I glanced around the room, but I didn’t see anybody.
I tried to sit upright but was too weak to even move. What was going on? I couldn’t remember the last time I was admitted to the hospital because I barely got sick.
“Nurse! Doctor!” I yelled as much as my dry throat would let me.
The door opened almost instantly and a nurse rushed into the room. “You’re awake. Don’t move too much. You need to rest.”
“Why? What happened to me?” I asked, my voice strained.
