I was surprised when I saw a call from Selena. We hadn’t spoken in weeks. Even though I missed her, I found it weird that she was finally contacting me.
I hesitated for a second before answering the call. “Hey,” my voice was skeptical as I spoke. “Selena?” I asked, just to be sure that it was her on the phone.
Her breathing was heavy. “Yes, it’s Selena.” Her voice was barely above a whisper. “Zoey, how are you doing?” She asked, trying to act like everything was good between us.
I couldn’t hold back a scoff.
“Really?” I asked, shaking my head even though she couldn’t see me. “You ghost me for weeks and then you think you can come back and act like nothing happened? Like we are still friends?”
The frustration in my voice was palpable.
