The minute I realize Nicky is walking toward us, my heart starts to race. Her eyes are fixated on Dennis and everything in me wants to step in front of him, but instead he is handing me the stroller Penny is in. When he tells me to take the girls into the store, I want to fight him even though I know he's right. I usher them inside the store and behind a wall where I can still see what's happening.
"Savvy, I don't like that woman. Why did Uncle Dennis tell you to take us into the store without him," she asks. I hate the fear I see in her eyes. She may be young but she is definitely observant.
