I moved away from the others so I could hear my mother clearly. She said one of the guards had found the envelope outside the front gate minutes earlier. Nobody had approached the house, and the cameras were already being checked. Ethan was still in the sunroom and hadn't seen anything.
"Don't open it."
"I wasn't planning to."
"We're coming back now."
I ended the call and told Amelia what had happened. Her eyes went straight to Emilia, but Emilia looked as confused as she did. Daniel immediately told one of the officers about the envelope. He wanted it handled as part of the same investigation.
"I need to go back to Ethan," Amelia said.
