Caius came closer while I opened the book. The pages were old, but the writing remained clear enough to read. Varen's name appeared several times on the first page. Lyrienne crouched beside me.
"Have you ever seen this book?"
"No."
I turned another page. There were dates from the year before I was born, along with names I didn't recognize. One appeared more often than the others. Corvin Rell.
"He knew Corvin."
Caius looked over the page.
"More than we thought."
I continued reading. Varen had written about meetings with Corvin and plans involving Silvermere. He knew my parents intended to send me there before I was born. There was no longer any reason to wonder whether he'd been involved.
"He knew everything."
Lyrienne moved closer.
"Keep reading."
